Selling on eBay

Unwanted goods around the home? Donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by selling on eBay, and help raise vital funds!

eBay allows you to list an item and donate a percentage of the money you raise to charity. Take a look at our top tips for selling items on eBay and raising vital funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Top tips for selling items on eBay.

1. Find items

Go to eBay and search for similar items to those you wish to sell. This can help you choose a starting price and the right categories for your items.

2. Take photos

Take at least one good photo of your item – this will increase interest in your listing. Be sure to take your pictures in good lighting.

3. Postage

Work out the cost of postage for sending your item - you’ll need to add this to your listing.

4. Create an account

Create your seller account on eBay.

5. List your items

List your items using the ‘Advanced Sell’ form. Look out for the ‘charity’ box (just below 'setting your price'). Select ‘Cystic Fibrosis Trust’ and choose the percentage you would like to donate to us.

6. Send your items

When your item is bought by someone, complete your transaction with the winning bidder. Package your item up safely and pop it in the post.

7. PayPal

Three weeks after your item sells, PayPal Giving Fund (eBay’s partner charity) will automatically collect the donation from your PayPal account.

8. Save 50% on fees

Every time you list an item for charity, you’ll get a fee credit on your basic insertion and final value fees equal to the percentage you donate. So if you donate 50% of your selling price to a charity, eBay will waive 50% of your fees.

eBay is a great place to sell all those unwanted items to make some money for charity and to reach out to more people affected by cystic fibrosis nationally. You can sell almost everything on eBay, from books, DVDs, clothes and household items to the obscure like an old brussels sprout left over from Christmas lunch! I do a charity auction every Christmas and make from £50 to £160 doing this 'fun' auction. Just allocate the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as your chosen charity and the percentage you want to donate and all the money goes directly to them! Definitely a good place to raise money for sponsorship or for an upcoming event.
